Who is the new police commissioner of mumbai?

Mumbai: VivekPhansalkarwas serving as the DG and MD of the Police Housing and Welfare Corporation before his current appointment.

The Maharashtra government on Wednesday appointed IPS officer Vivek Phansalkar as the commissioner of Mumbai Police. Vivek will replace Sanjay Pande as the latter retires on June 30.

In 2018, Vivek Phansalkar was sppointed as Thane police commissioner succeeding Parambir Singh, who was then posted to Mumbai as additional director general of police (law and order).Prior to this appointment, Phansalkar had been additional director general of Mumbai’s Anti-Corruption Bureau since 2016.

A 1989-batch officer, Phansalkar has worked in Thane previously, in 2008, when he crucially helped end riots between two communities that had been going on for a week.

1991-93: Worked as additional superintendent of police in Akola.


1993-95: Was ADC to governor Dr PC Alexander.


1995-98: Superintendent of police in Wardha and Parbhani.


1998-2000: Posted as deputy commissioner of police of Nashik.


2000-03: Superintendent of police, CID (crime), Nagpur.


2003-07: - Director of vigilance for Cotton Corporation of India.


2007-10: Additional commissioner of police for Pune and Thane.


2010-14: Joint commissioner of police (traffic), Mumbai.


2014-15: Joint Commissioner of police (admin)


2015 -16: Additional director general of police, Anti-Terrorism Squad, Mumbai.


2016-18: Additional director general of police, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Mumbai.


2018-22: Thane police commissioner
